Wi-Fi Refresh Wrapped: Seamless Upgrade for a State Energy Provider

After more than a decade in service, the Wi-Fi network across one of Australia’s major energy providers was showing signs of age. With staff and contractors increasingly relying on mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, scanners, and handhelds, the exsiting infrastructure simply couldn’t keep up to the future needs of the organisation. To keep pace with the demands of modern mobility, the organisation initiated a state-wide Wi-Fi refresh, including surveys and designs across 21 depots, 6 main offices, and several key training centres. That’s when Your Wi-Fi Shop was brought in.

We were engaged to audit, design, and document the rollout of a new Aruba wireless network, built to support mobile workflows, increase coverage, and remain scalable for future growth.

Our Approach: From Site Walks to Smart Design

We kicked things off with comprehensive on-site surveys and a full Wi-Fi audit, visiting every location to understand the unique environment, building layout, and existing infrastructure.

Each site visit included:

• Signal strength testing of the existing network to establish a performance benchmark and identify coverage gaps

• Measurement of environmental attenuation and observations of how the spaces are used by staff and key contractors

• Identification of access point locations and opportunities to reuse existing outlets

• Practical recommendations for improvement

• Close collaboration with the structured cabling team to verify WAP locations, ensuring all placements were realistic and tailored to the site’s needs.

From there, all real-world data was fed back into the predictive design process to ensure the new network would be fit for purpose. The goal? To support future needs, make the most of existing infrastructure, reduce costs and downtime, and avoid disruption while getting the best possible return on investment.

Delivering Clarity with Installer Design Reports

Each site received a tailored Wi-Fi Design and Installer Report with:

• A predictive design with proposed WAP placements, heat maps, and key expectations and considerations

• Cable routing suggestions

• Outlet reuse notes

• Mounting instructions

This gave electrical teams a no-guesswork guide for installation.

With the sites now upgraded, the refreshed Wi-Fi network is live and delivering reliable connectivity across offices, depots, and training facilities.
